What is Robinhood Chain?

Robinhood Chain is a Layer 2 — a network that processes transactions separately from Ethereum, then settles back to it — built by Robinhood Markets for tokenized stocks and real-world assets. It launched on mainnet July 1, 2026, and is permissionless: anyone can deploy standard smart contracts on it.

01Who built it

Who built it, and why

Robinhood Markets, Inc. — the trading app — first revealed Robinhood Chain on June 30, 2025, alongside its stock-token launch in the EU. The chain's public mainnet went live on July 1, 2026, announced at a keynote in London called "Robinhood Presents: The World is Flat."

Robinhood's stated purpose for the chain is self-custody (holding your own assets in your own wallet, instead of a broker holding them for you), programmatic trading (software placing trades automatically, without a human clicking each one), and 24/7 access to assets that traditionally only trade during market hours.

Robinhood Chain settles to Ethereum: it periodically writes a summary of its activity back to the Ethereum network, and uses Ethereum's "blobs" (a cheap, dedicated storage lane on Ethereum) to hold its transaction data. It runs on infrastructure from Offchain Labs — the company behind Arbitrum, another Ethereum Layer 2 — under Offchain Labs' Arbitrum Expansion Program license. Under that license, 10% of Robinhood Chain's net protocol revenue flows back to the Arbitrum ecosystem: 8% to its DAO treasury, 2% to its Developer Guild.

Day-one ecosystem partners named at launch include Uniswap, Pleiades, Alchemy, BitGo, and Chainlink.

02How it differs

How it differs from Ethereum, Arbitrum and Solana

Robinhood Chain runs on the same underlying technology as Arbitrum (Offchain Labs' "Dedicated Blockchains" under the Arbitrum Expansion Program), but it is its own chain with its own chain ID, not a part of Arbitrum One.

03What you can do

What you can actually do on it today

The headline product is tokenized stocks — stock tokens meant to track the price of real equities, ETFs, and other assets on-chain. At initial rollout, Robinhood listed more than 2,000 stock tokens for over 150,000 customers across 30 countries, with no added Robinhood commission or spread on top, and support for dividend payments.

This is restricted to the EU/EEA. If you are not in an eligible EU/EEA country, you cannot currently buy Robinhood's tokenized stocks, regardless of what wallet or chain you're using. Stock tokens were initially issued on Arbitrum One, with Robinhood stating an intent to migrate issuance onto Robinhood Chain itself.

Outside of tokenized stocks, the chain is a general-purpose, EVM-compatible network. Anyone can deploy a standard smart contract on it — a trading pair, a vault, an NFT collection — with the same tools used on Ethereum.

The technical details

According to Arbitrum's own governance factsheet (not a Robinhood source), Robinhood Chain targets roughly 100ms block times with preconfirmations, and its public testnet processed over 200 million transactions before mainnet launched.

05Can anyone build

Can anyone build on it?

Yes, with a caveat worth stating plainly. Robinhood Chain is permissionless: there is no listed approval process to deploy a contract, and standard EVM contracts — which includes the ERC-721 standard that most NFTs use — deploy the same way they would on Ethereum or Arbitrum.

That is a statement about the chain's architecture, not about Robinhood's opinion of any specific project. Robinhood's own documentation is focused on tokenized real-world assets and says nothing about NFT projects one way or the other. Deploying on Robinhood Chain does not mean Robinhood reviewed, approved, or endorsed what got deployed.

06Where HoodMasks fits

Where HoodMasks fits

HoodMasks is an NFT collection being built on Robinhood Chain, using the same standard, permissionless smart-contract tooling open to any project on the chain. The Genesis contract is not deployed yet, and no mint date or mint price has been announced. Robinhood Markets, Inc. did not build, review, or endorse HoodMasks, and HoodMasks is not affiliated with Robinhood in any way. See the HoodMasks homepage for what it is, or the FAQ for direct answers.

07FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Robinhood Chain used for?
Its stated purpose is tokenized real-world assets — currently stocks, funds, and other financial instruments — plus self-custody, programmatic trading, and 24/7 asset access. It is also a general-purpose EVM chain, so any standard smart contract can run on it.
Who built Robinhood Chain?
Robinhood Markets, Inc., the trading and investing company, built Robinhood Chain. It was first revealed on June 30, 2025, and its public mainnet launched July 1, 2026.
Is Robinhood Chain the same as Arbitrum?
No. Robinhood Chain runs on Offchain Labs' Arbitrum-derived technology under a licensing program, and it settles to Ethereum the way Arbitrum does. But it is a separate chain with its own chain ID and its own network, not a part of Arbitrum One.
Can I buy tokenized stocks on Robinhood Chain from anywhere?
No. Robinhood's tokenized-stock product is currently limited to customers in the EU/EEA. The restriction applies to that specific product, not necessarily to the chain's general availability for other uses.
What is the gas token on Robinhood Chain?
ETH, on both mainnet and testnet. You pay transaction fees in ETH the same way you would on Ethereum or Arbitrum.
Can anyone deploy a smart contract or NFT collection on Robinhood Chain?
Yes. The chain is permissionless and fully EVM-compatible, so standard contracts — including NFT contracts — deploy without a special approval process. This does not mean Robinhood reviewed or endorsed any individual project built there.
